How to ask for Google reviews (and actually get them)

A review-request text you can copy, plus when and how to send it.

The review-request text

Hey [first name], this is [your first name] with [company]. Thanks again for trusting us with [job]. If you have 30 seconds, would you mind leaving us a quick Google review? It really helps a local business like ours.

Here's the one-tap link: [g.page/r/your-id]

Either way, it was a pleasure working with you!

Why this works

  • First name only (not "Dear customer")
  • References the specific job
  • Says "30 seconds" (low ask)
  • Names the link as "one-tap" (no friction)
  • Out clause ("either way") removes pressure

When to send

Send the request soon after completing the job, while the experience is fresh. The longer you wait, the less likely people are to respond.

Build your link

Go to Google Business Profile → Get more reviews → copy your "share review form" URL. It looks like g.page/r/XXX/review.

Pro move: build it into invoicing

Add the review link as a P.S. on every paid invoice. Use Stripe, QuickBooks, or Jobber's built-in review request automation.

→ See Handling a bad review without losing your mind.

Common questions

How do I ask a customer for a Google review?+

Ask in person right after you finish the work, then send a text with a direct review link within an hour. The request has to be easy and immediate — the link matters more than the wording.

Is it legal to offer a discount for a review?+

No. Paying for or incentivizing reviews violates Google's policies and FTC guidance, and can get your reviews removed or your profile suspended.
